The manufacturer’s manual overrides this general checklist. Stop using damaged, unstable or unusually noisy equipment.
Before each use
- Check locks, selectors, pins and collars are fully engaged.
- Look for cracks, fraying, corrosion, loose fasteners or damaged grips.
- Make sure the floor is dry and the equipment sits level.
- Keep cords, pets, children and loose objects out of the movement area.
Weekly or regular-use checks
- Wipe contact surfaces with a material-compatible cleaner.
- Inspect resistance bands and tubes along their full length.
- Check benches and racks for movement at bolts and adjustment points.
- Clean rower rails and inspect straps, chains or handles as directed.
- Remove dust around motors and vents without opening protected housings.
Periodic care
Some treadmills need belt lubrication or alignment; others must not be lubricated by the owner. Cable machines may specify pulley, cable and hardware checks. Exercise bikes can require pedal, crank and drive inspection. Use only approved lubricants and replacement parts.
Storage
Do not store equipment in damp conditions unless it is designed for them. Keep bands away from heat, direct sunlight, oils and sharp edges. Store weights so they cannot roll or fall. Use vertical storage only when the manufacturer permits it.
When to stop using equipment
Stop when a frame is unstable, a cable or band is damaged, a lock does not engage, a motor smells unusual, electrical parts are wet, or movement changes unexpectedly. Arrange qualified service where appropriate.
